We have just got back from Paris where we have been at the fabric shows investigating suppliers of British wools and tweeds, and Organic and Fairtrade Cottons... We attended an interesting and inspiring seminar on Sustainable sourcing which was tres bon!

Of course, we found time to visit the Tour Eiffel, Arc de Triumph, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Le Louvre and a little stroll down the Champs Elysees!

We found some lovely Vintage Boutiques, our particular favorite was Mam'zelle Swing 35 bis rue du Roi de Sicile, so if your ever in town be sure to check it out!

Hi there Gals!
I hope everyone had a brilliant Women's Day yesterday? I was just loving all the TV and News Paper articles on women's lib and the continuing struggle for equality.
Here's a sneaky behind the scenes snap from our most recent photo shoot. We have some more new lines in for spring so keep your eyes peeled as we update them onto the website.
Also, I'm just starting to clear some end of line bits on ebay. We have got all new scaffolds for storage installed and lots of new stock, so quite a few items are going into the sale online, and other bits and bobs will be on ebay. A spring clean you might say! Either way, you gals will be getting some bargains!
I have seen a few crocuses popping out, and the daffs are poking through (not a sign of yellow yet though). I cannot wait for the cherry blossom! Please spring! Hurry up!

It has been snowing here in London, which often puts us in that difficult situation of trying to wrap up warm but not particularly wanting to look like the Michelin Man! Here at Tara Starlet we have devised some very pretty ways around this situation. St Catherine's Day - 25th November

Commemorating the martyrdom of St Catherine who was beheaded by the Emperor she refused to wed, St Catherine's Day is a day of female joviality and frivolous celebration. Once being a day for unmarried women exactly 25 years of age (known as Cathrinettes) to prey to God and St Catherine to bestow them with a husband, lest they become a spinster when they turn 26! Cathrinettes in Paris would parade the streets in outrageous paper-hats made for them by their friends and make a pilgrimage to the St Catherine statues in the streets.

The women often suffered leering and groping from men who would come to witness this display of single females, in response the day came to take on a suffragist atmosphere in the 1920s and women of all ages and marital status would get involved, chasing men and pinching them! It became a fashion-focussed event, women paraded the streets of Paris in haute hats and their finest threads. Now it is widely celebrated by milliners.

I love the idea of commemorating the martyrdom of a woman who refused to marry a demanding pursuer, choosing death over cowering to a powerful and rich man who wished to have her as his possession. She lay down her life in the name of a woman's right to choose, so the very least we can do sisters is celebrate her memory and keep this old festival alive!

It's the WEEKEND!

I have had a VERY busy couple of weeks, so apologies for not writing in a while. We have been updating the website, planning a photo shoot and the shopping party, plus preparing lots more wholesale orders, Tara Starlet coming to a shop near you soon!

So the weekend is well deserved, and what a goodun it's going to be!

Tonight I will be hitting the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes with my girlfriends for ROCK-A-HULA!

We had such a blast last time that they just wouldn't forgive me if I didn't treat them to another round of fun-packed 50s theme hula partying! Find out more here.

Then Saturday night is the spectacular WW2 theme The Blitz Party, where the arches in Shorditch are converted into air-raid shelters, the drinks menu is on a ration card, and everyone looks like they've stepped of the streets of 1930s/40s London, partying like it might be their last night alive! Its already sold out, as usual so I hope you all have your tickets already. If not, we'll just see you at the next one!

So however you're celebrating your weekend, I hope you have a good one!

Impromptu Photo Shoot!

We arrived at the studio this morning to find a Union Jack branded Land Rover outside, this triggered an impromptu photo shoot. It was perfect for the new Home Front Dancing Dress, and we're so proud of our local production that the flag was perfect! ...I just hope the owner doesn't mind!

Today we are very busy unpacking, ironing and hanging up all the stock for our shopping party this saturday. You gals are in for a treat! There's loads of original Tara Starlet stock that is no longer available anywhere else.

Well, we had an absolutely Rockin' time at Rock-A-Hula on friday night! I even got mum hula-hooping! Good-times all round.

Right now, I'm just about to lock-up and head off to my W.I. meeting round the corner, Tonight we're making jewelry with Lady Luck Rules OK! ...should be fun fun fun!

Here is a pic of some of the new fabrics that we just got in yesterday. Aren't they beautiful?

Here at Tara Starlet we are concerned about the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. We strive to keep our carbon footprint dainty, to do this we make sure that we manufacture locally in London Town, and we reuse reclaimed end-of-roll fabrics. So you may see something you recognise! We make our clothes out of the fabrics that have been left over by other designers.

You may have noticed that at Tara Starlet, our staple designs are available in a range of fabrics and colours, this is because we use these left-over fabrics. We like doing this for the obvious ecological benefits of recycling and reducing waste, but also because it means that you are much less likely to find someone else wearing the same garment, in the same colour as you. Thats always embarrassing! We know how much you vintage-loving gals appreciate having something that is one-of-a-kind! Also this means that you can stock up on the designs that you all love in a variety of fabrics!

So keep your eyes peeled for these beautiful fabrics which will soon be transformed into lovely forties shirts and blouses!
